Product Description

Capri Tl709 7" Portable Lcd Tv gives you the ability to enjoy your favorite television programs anywhere, any time--in your home or away. Watch the morning news without having to get out of bed, or while sun bathing in the back yard. Does someone else have dibs on the TV room? Pull out your digtal TV, and you've got your own TV room. This handy little portable TV has a LCD screen that switches between a 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratio. It has a built-in ATSC/NTSC tuner with detachable antenna enabling you to receive crisp reception of your favorite channels - even after the digital-to-analog switch in June 2009. Watch with others using the built-in twin speaker system, or plug your headphones into the included jack to enjoy your favorite programs without disturbing those around you. Note: Reception of over the air signal depends on your location. Lack of reception does not indicate a defective product, but merely a weak transmission signal. Try moving the unit to another location, or connecting to cable, satellite, external or an indoor antenna

Capri Tl709 7" Portable Lcd Tv Review

Overall I am giving it 4 stars given what you get for the price. I actually got mine for $64 a few weeks ago for the anniversary celebration of Fry's Electronics. Even if I had paid full price, (which is normally $109), I'd still give it 4 stars.

I've had a lot of experience with portable analog tv's (pre-digital) and even up until the year before dtv went into effect, the analogs were still going for $120+ for small 2" Casios (for example). These tv's were awful, with a tiny screen, small speaker, and horrible reception. Anyone who's had one knows the feeling of frustration and wanting to throw it out the window.

This tv has a huge 7" screen. It receives all stations in the local area that you can pick up on your regular home digital converter box (simply scan the area and it will automatically tune into all available signals). All stations come in crystal clear and rarely stutters (usually happens on weaker signals such as ethnic stations). Battery life has been pretty awesome. I've watched 2 movies back to back without problems...so I estimate the battery life to be around 3+ hours without having to recharge the replaceable battery. High definition stations come in the best in color and sharpness. The pictures almost "pop". Stereo speakers are loud enough to be heard by everyone in an outdoors setting (ie camping) but not in traffic or anything noisy. Additional features include closed captioning, guide (scrolls through a schedule with all the programs and times coming up on that station you are tuned into), normal and wide views, and other menu functions on a typical tv. It comes with a full function remote, AV cable, antenna, ac adaptor, and earphones. Also has a screw hole on the bottom of tv to put on tripod although it does have a kickstand in back of tv.

As far as picture quality goes, some stations (particularly non-HD) may seem a little grainy, this is due to the type of LCD screen on the tv. (If you look closely you'll notice that the tiny "squares" on the screen are larger than, say your high resolution lcd screen on your laptop. The lower resolution is without a doubt one of the reasons why the tv is priced so low. However it doesn't take anything away from your enjoyment of your favorite program. The only thing that I find a little annoying is that the color and tint really need to be tweaked to get the right skin tones. Once I did that it was fine but still not the best...not that I was expecting the colors to look realistic like a Samsung flat panel tv, but I made them at least look like "correct" skin tones. The tv is a little thick (1") and you must travel with the antenna or else it won't work. Maybe I'll go to radio shack and find a stubby antenna instead at some point. I am also concerned about the availability of the rechargeable battery. We all know these batteries don't last forever...and may need to be replaced in a year or two. (Although you can still watch the tv using the ac adaptor if you didn't have a battery). It's great not having to burn through AA batteries like the old tv's used to...but it may be wise to purchase an additional battery for this just in case to get the most enjoyment out of your tv.

I did go back to Fry's to compare the picture quality of mine with the other similarly priced 7" models and I have to say that this one scores the best overall. I am putting pics up so you can see how an actual picture looks like. This is Oprah on a high definition local station.

It is also helpful to know that this model is being sold under different brand names but they are all identical. I have the GPX model, though model number is the same as Capri and the Haier model is also this identical tv. The accessories, remote control, are all identical. In addition, I noticed that some people complained about not receiving -anything- on this tv while others have stated their pictures are crystal clear like me. (Check the Haier model reviews). I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and not surprised I get great reception. If you live in a rural area you may need to experiment to see how reception is.

I was a little weary about investing in another portable tv but I must admit technology has come a long way with these new ones.
