Fujifilm FinePix XP100 Digital Camera (Black) Review

I purchased the XP100 specifically to take on a 14 day snorkel trip to Cozumel. Yes, moisture gets into the camera. I notice water around the seals of the battery/memory card compartment, and sometimes behind the view screen. I've never had water in the lens assembly though. The camera is still functioning perfectly and taking outstanding pictures and videos. Some of the videos were so breathtaking I wanted to watch them on my 42" HDTV, so, I ordered the HDMI cables to connect the camera to the TV. At first I was so disappointed because all the camera information that you see during playback on the camera was also on the TV screen, and it was SO BIG that it obscured a lot of the picture and was extremely annoying. The instruction manual was no help, and I got no answer from Fujifilm when I sent them an email asking if there were a way to turn the useless camera data off. I finally played with all the buttons and found that after you connect the camera to the TV and turn the camera & TV on, push the Disp/Back button and it will take you to a screen on the TV where you can turn the Information feature off. Problem solved and I am a happy camper...or should I say a happy snorkeler. For now, I am storing the camera when it is not in use in a plastic bag with a couple of packets of those moisture absorbing silica beads and every so often will treat the rubber seals around the battery chamber with silicone grease (very carefully and sparingly) and hope the camera continues to record wonderful underwater experiences.

LaCie d2 Network v.2 1 TB Ethernet Network Attached Storage 301504 Review

This Network Disk was purchased with the intension of being used in a Mac Only environment for professional graphic design and 3D modeling services. 4 macs on a gigabit Ethernet network.
Amazon packaging was done properly, arrived in perfect condition.
LaCie packaging was done very well. The package includes all cables and software needed.
SW Installation took 8-10 minutes and only requires to be installed on ONE machine.
It mounts very fast on each machine as I have named it; DA5-Netdisk
The files are generally reference Photos and 3Dmodels that are used and shared between these machines.

Transfer Speed:
Test file: A Folder containing 2 files; One 4KB (1,375 bytes) and the other 1,088,275,968 for a total of 1.01GB (1,088,277,343 bytes)
Test condition: The only file transfer done at the time.

On a G5 Dual 2GHz PPC:
From External FW800 to Netdisk, 31 seconds
From Internal SATA to Netdisk, 29 seconds

On a Macpro 2.93MHz Quad, 8-core
From External eSATA OWC to Netdisk, 29 seconds
From Internal dual RAID WD Raptors to Netdisk, 28 seconds

For testing I used a folder and NOT a file since that is a more realistic simulation of everyday use than one large file.
The speed is very good. It is NOT the fastest which is the IOCELL NETDISK NDAS 351 but the Iocell does NOT allow more than ONE Mac to write to the netdisk in NDAS (Multip[le READ, single WRITE). The difference is about 2-3 seconds per transfer on a 1GB file. That is very negligible for me or almost 99% of people who would use a netdisk.

Note that deleting ANY file or folder from the netdisk will NOT put the item(s) in TRASH but it DELETES the file(s) or Folder(s) immediately. While it can be a bit inconvenient for mistakes but it is great for the fact that the available space shown at the bottom of the window is always REAL. A warning window does pop up giving you a chance to cancel in case of mistake.

The drive enclosure runs silent, it runs cooler than almost any drive I have. The temperature normally is LESS than putting your hand under your arm.
The blue LED light in front is not very bright and not distracting. It does blink during file transfers.
The enclose is small and has a nice sturdy aluminum casing with a base foot that is very stable.

I consider the life of an external HD on FW800, 400 or eSATA to be about 3-4 years. I anticipate this drive to work this length like the other 7 externals that I have from LaCie. 2 of them are dead after 4 and 4.5 years.
I have also set up the information on this Netdisk to be backed up every night to another LaCie 2TB in case of any failure.

ProMediaGear is a relatively new name in the photography gear world, but their product easily competes with the very best names out there. This particular L-bracket is meant for a D600 with the optional battery grip installed on it. This bracket provides dove-tail mounting for both horizontal and vertical orientation attachment to any arca style quick release clamp. I own tripod and camera mounting gear from really right stuff, kirk and promedia gear, and this bracket is easily as well made and solid as any brand available. An added benefit available with this bracket is that the bottom camera plate is machines with mounting holes for an optional flash bracket which can be added later. Also this bracket is engineered in such a way so as to allow the vertical plate to be adjusted further away from the camera to allow room to open and close the rubber port "doors" on the side of the camera for access to GPS, Accessory, cable release, and tethered capture, without sacrificing anything in the way of stability. Finally, my favorit feature of this bracket, is that it is engeniously engineered with a hole and magnetized groove along the top of the vertical flange in which an allen wrench is stored. The magnetic hardware insures that the allen wrench can't be lost accidentally, elevating this from the realm of gimmick into the role of genius. This bracket is absolutely incredible, and you cannot go wrong with any of ProMedia Gear's products.

Wow, First of all I love the option of 2 day delivery, it was well worth it. Second ,the Pyle PHS901CW exceeded my expectations. The unit is well made and looks more like a piece of furniture, than an Ipod docking station. Third point, the unit sounds great as is right out of the box. I'm not a Bose fan which is what most e-tailers and retailers push as the best docking station out there. This unit has more punch and features than it's competitors. The remote works very and my IPhone charges while playing music. I give this unit an 8.5 out of 10. Please keep in mind I have yet to see and hear a 10. I look forward to Pyle's next gen. unit.

Shure MX391W/C Condenser Microphone (Cardioid) Review

We mounted this on the wall inside a "non-traditional" conference room (think something closer to a living room with a couch) and are using it for Skype calls. So far, so good.

This thing is a solid, well built microphone with a nice inline pre-amp. You can unscrew the lid and inside you'll find two holes to mount this on the surface of your choice. It is very small and completely unobtrusive.

All in all, I'm pretty impressed.
