Cyfre SVW819 Amplifier Kit - New Review

I bought this as alternative to the much pricier Wilson amps, and I'm very satisfied. My only complaint is lack of better product description, which I'll try to improve here. I'm using a Wilson Trucker antenna, which mates to an FME connector, while the Cyfre has mini-N female connectors for both input and output. After receiving the product I figured out which connectors to order for the antenna and the FME to TS-9 pigtail that plugs into my Sierra 250U cell modem. I then ordered these:

which worked out fine. These are full-sized N connectors that don't screw onto the mini-N but rather slip on, but they do work. If you have an external antenna with the common FME adapter to your cell modem already, this setup should work for you. If you use the supplied mag mount, you'll just need one adapter for your cell modem, like the Cellphone-Mate N Male to FME Male Connector RF Adapter with an appropriate FME adapter for your cell modem, or an N to , which doesn't seem to exist for mine.

It wasn't clear if this amplifier should be connected directly into the cell modem, or to an indoor antenna. I tried connecting the supplied mag-mount antenna to the output (so I could boost voice cell signals also) but didn't get much improvement. Maybe an antenna dedicated to this purpose would work. After connecting directly, there was a huge signal boost however. From zero or at best one bar before, I now get a solid four bar signal. I also tried replacing my external Wilson Trucker antenna with the supplied mag mount, and it seems to work just as well.

I highly recommend this amp for anyone with a weak 3G signal. Note that it's not for 4G frequencies, but it works for both 1xRTT and EVDO, which is common in rural areas for Sprint and Verizon.
