What makes this light great is its portability and option of using either batteries or AC power. The light strength is also pretty awesome in studio settings. The softbox feature is handy to have as well, although the product's instructions for attaching it to the light were not good. It states that the softbox rods insert into the light at points indicated by triangles. Well, there were no triangles, so I sat scratching my head with a non-taut softbox for a few days. Then I contacted Promaster directly, who stated that the rods insert into square notches around the black plastic part of the light (at 2 o'clock, 4, 8 and 10). The rods also take some force to get them into those notches.

I've found, however, that power (at full) is not quite what it needs to be for out of studio scenes at shutter speeds much more than 1/60th (ISO around 1250 or 1600). The light CAN be what it needs to be outdoors at night or in a cavernous reception hall, but you need to be pretty dang close to the subject to get it bright enough for a proper exposure. This essentially means it's not good for wide angles in those dim out-of-studio scenarios, unless you don't mind the light in your shot or you can somehow hide it.

I've also tried using it as a fill light in shade on a bright clear day to balance out a bright background with subjects posed in shade, and it seemed to practically emit nothing on my subjects.

Overall, slightly disappointed in this, but will continue to use it to the best of its abilities.
