There must exist some twenty or so suppliers of similar product: 104 key mainly-Windows-use keyboard, mounted on a compact size frame (thin edges), black color overall, Cherry MX switches (usually brown or blue or black or red etc), primarily intended for USB connection, 6-to-n-key rollover, etc) This model uses Cherry MX-Black type switches which have less noise. There is no built-in click-over feedback as the key is depressed about 2-3mm in its total travel of about 4mm. Pressure is about two ounces, same as MX-Blue or MX-Brown type switches. If you bottom out the key, which is usually likely, the POM type plastic key caps will gently impact the back surface, and this does create an audible clunky sound. This sound is less pronounced versus the built-in tick-tick click of the Cherry MX-Blue switch, which many users like. If you hit these Black type switches hard, you feel and hear a tock-tock type of lower frequency feedback.

Overall the manufacture quality of this Noppoo Choc (horrible name!) keyboard is excellent. My sample had zero defects while many buyers of Rosewill keyboards may report frequent issues. In fact I ordered this unit because Rosewill cancelled my order for their product, admitting that there existed an unforeseen quality control issue. (I appreciate the honesty!) The Noppoo has POM type plastic (Poly-OxyMethyleneor) keycaps, while many manufacturers use PBT or ABS plastic. POM plastic is a very strong material, so it tends to hold its shape better over time; ABS on the other hand, has a tendency to get shiny quickly with heavy usage. However POM (also called "Delrin" when made into low friction bearing shapes) is somewhat slippery to the touch. So despite the excellent texturing that has been molded into the keycaps, you may or may not like the way your fingers can literally "fly" across the keys while typing! I thought this effect was pretty nice, a lot nicer than sticky, wobbly cheap PVC keycaps, for instance, as found on cheap OEM keyboards that may be thrown-in with your desktop PC purchase.

A problem with slick plastic keycaps, however, is they can be easily popped off the MX switches during transit. My keyboard lost seven keys to shipping vibrations or droppage, so these keys were bouncing around inside the sturdy keyboard double boxed corrugated container. The keyboard was simply wrapped with bubble wrap; if the importer had used a sturdy plastic keyboard cover and then closed the inner carton over that cover, the keys would've likely stayed in place. "Ducky" brand ships with such a hard plastic support device, and their out-of-box experience is much better, AT A COST OF $30-40 HIGHER PER UNIT! Once I found and reattached the keys, this embarrassment of poor presentation was cast aside. The keyboard cable is slightly longer than six feet long and is very sturdy. It is USB only, there is no PS2 adapter included; the cable is permanently attached to the back center of the keyboard. I tested the keyboard with a Logitech purple USB-to-PS2 adapter, and this keyboard is not compatible. A few keys do work, but the keyboard lacks the software for correct PS2 operation. So if you need a PS2 capability, check elsewhere! The upper row of keys also has the typical arrangement of audio control function-activated software keys, but I did not test these as I do not generally use those controls. The keycaps on this keyboard version were not backlit, though you might want to order one of those if you need better visuals and some fun special effects. This version has a yellowish off-white lettering that appears to be laser force-etched into the keycaps, so it should not rub off with your sweaty, oily finger smashes.

The keyboard's chassis is fairly robust and will not slide around on your desk when you pound on the keys. Rubber strip-feet also secure the position, but you can raise up the back edge by about three quarters of an inch if you like an angled typing experience. Just for kicks, I installed a bunch of blue WASD o-rings onto the primary alpha and bottom row and backspace/tab/enter/left-shift keys to see how the feel would be affected. This converted the tock-tock sound to a thunk-thunk with a softer bottoming out energy impulse. Either experience is good typing, but for long term use, the o-rings shorten the stroke by a third of a millimeter or so; in this case I could type faster without any added errors. Your mileage will vary! They even included a keycap puller, but no extra keys.

Shipping: awesome fast, fulfilled by Amazon, arriving two days sooner than promised. The cartons were packed with plastic balloons and condition was excellent, save for the jarred-loose bottom row keycaps. Bottom line is, if you want Cheery MX keyswitches and high quality keycaps that may last a lifetime, you won't regret buying one of the many Noppoo Choc Pro 104 models of keyboards. Just be prepared to do some minor re-assembly after you carefully open the carton! Happy typing to YOU !!
