I really wanted this to work as I think Nikon's MB-D12 is extremely overpriced. I have the Nikon MB-D10 on my D300 & it was less than $230. The Phottix has no reviews to speak of but at $200 you'd expect that it would approach Nikon quality- so I took a chance. In the end there are many other knock-offs of similar quality at less than $100. There are no weather seals anywhere and the instructions even say as much. If you don't use your camera in dusty conditions or wet weather this is a nice looking, fairly robust unit- but it does not compare in quality to the Nikon MB-D12 and offers no weather protection at all. Since my camera is used primarily for wildlife photography and I don't have another $3000+ to replace it, I have ordered the real thing from Amazon at a significantly higher price and returned the Phottix for refund. And.....now it has a review.

I have purchased 4 different systems to try to fit my audio needs. First, I got the $120 Audio 2000's Dual Lavaliere kit. The sound was good, but the quality was horrible. The antenna broke right out of the box. I could see this breaking in less than a year. Secondly, I got this. I was excited because the build quality is night and day better than the Audio 2000's. Unfortunately, the internal components of this device are extremely cheap,a nd do not allow for a usable signal. It simply did not provide audio. The gain was up all the way, and it didn't work. I am no rookie at this, so it's not me. It was a shame too because the build quality appears to be excellent. So after that I got the WMS-PRO from Azden. That is a nice little device, but for my purposes, the audio sounds too much like FM radio, and that's not good enough.

Do yourself a favor. On a budget of less than $200 either:

Get the WMS-PRO from Azden for $150 (VHF, but excellent build quality)

or

Get the Audio Technica ATW-701 for $200 (UHF, and excellent build quality)

I have the ATW-701. For the money, it cannot be beat.

P.S. If you need to make it portable, but build a parallel battery pack with 8 AA batteries = 12V

SquareTrade 3-Year Camera Accident Protection Plan ($500-$600) Review

I purchased the squaretrade 2 year warranty for my camera purchased on E bay. The camera mal functioned after one year and square trade fixed the camera with out a problem. Afer many, many and I mean many photos taken the camera it mal functioned again, I called squaretrade to have it repaired again under the warranty, but they refused stating the cost of the repair exceeded the cost of the camera, 1st repair was $ 135.00 cost to square trade, and they would not repair or replace it again. They only thing they could do is send me a check for the difference of the original cost of the camera less the 1 st repair cost which was about $ 22.00. So read the fine print, this is not an unlimited warranty! I was a little disappointed. The rep on the phone stated that the comera should have not been repaired the 1st time because of the high cost of repair compared to the cost of the camera.

I used Tiffen DFX2 (the plug-in for Photoshop elements) and it worked fine. After moving and a HD crash, lost key to re-install so I bought DFX2 Standalone. I like it better, because photoshop by itself can use a lot of memory. Earlier this month DFX3 was on sale and I bought the standalone version again. This one had additional features which I like as well.
